Historically, aquamarine was believed to be a lucky charm which can help protect sailors from shipwreck, and, as a last resort, sailors have been known to throw aquamarine overboard during storms to appease the sea gods. Aquamarine is the gemstone for March and is the traditional gemstone for a 19th wedding anniversary.
